Patricia L. Brown Receives Board Certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

Patricia L. Brown & Associates is the only Williamson County, TX family law practice with a Board Certified attorney and two Board Certified paralegals

Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced Patricia L. Brown received Board Certification in Family Law. Ms. Brown is the founder and managing partner of Patricia L. Brown & Associates, in Round Rock, Williamson County, Texas. Ms. Brown founded her family law firm in 1997, after receiving her license from the State Bar of Texas.

According to the TBLS, "Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment. Within the Texas legal community, Board Certification means an attorney has substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law." Less than 1% of all the lawyers in Texas are Board Certified in Family Law.

One of the objectives of the TBLS is to assist consumers find a lawyer who has demonstrated ability and experience in specialized fields of law: one who is Board Certified.

According to the TBLS, there are only some 800 Board Certified Family Law attorneys and 120 Board Certified Family Law paralegals in the entire state of Texas. To become Board Certified in Texas, an attorney must:

  • Be licensed to practice law for at least five years;
  • Devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years;
  • Handle a wide variety of matters in the area to demonstrate experience and involvement;
  • Attend continuing education seminars regularly to keep legal training up to date;
  • Be evaluated by fellow lawyers and judges;
  • Pass a 6-hour written examination.
